FLOCK
ALISON LEE SCHROEDER
MIXED MEDIA INSTALLATION
2007-CURRENT
This piece has taken on different meanings in each of its installations. Originating from a collaborative exploration in public art with elementary school students, it started with re-purposed plastic from old noteooks. The birds soared above the school's blacktop, casting multi-colored shadows on the ground below. Its second incarnation was in black paper in a survey of contemporary art in Cuernavaca, Morelos. The birds, all modeled after migratory species, ominously floated above the gallery space in the exhibition, Después del Edén. The flock returned to its original colorful spectrum for a fundraising effort at the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation.
